Cabello was born in Havana, Cuba, to Sinuhe Estrabao and Alejandro Cabello. Her birthplace was in the city of East Havana's Cojimar. Her father was born in Mexico City and is a Mexican who emigrated to Cuba. She has a younger sister called Sofia. The Cabello family frequently moved between Havana, Mexico City for the majority of her early years. Cabello relocated to Miami, Florida with her mother at the age of six years old. Her father wasn't able to get an immigration visa at the time and she joined the family in the following 18 months. Cabello was granted American citizenship in 2008. She was a student at Miami Palmetto High School but quit in the 2012-2013 school year when she was in 9th grade, to pursue her singing career. She later earned her high school diploma. Camila Cabello was a contestant on The X Factor, a TV talent show held in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was a contestant with Aretha Franklin's song "Respect" However, her audition was turned down by the series. Cabello was eliminated during the "bootcamp” portion of the Miami process. Then, she was called back on the stage alongside fellow contestants Ally Brooke and Normani Jauregui. They would later form Fifth Harmony. After finishing third on the show the group signed a joint agreement with Syco Music, owned by Simon Cowell and Epic Records, L.A. Reid's record label.
