Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 she is an American retired artistic gymnast. She is also twice Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. In the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she took home a gold in the team competition with her teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans who have won back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman was awarded silver medals in the all-around competition for individuals, as well as the floor exercise. She is the third-most accomplished American gymnast in Olympic history, behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles and has won six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a part of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the bronze medalist from the world championships in floor exercise in the year 2011. She is also two-time national champion in floor exercises (2012 and 2015) as well as the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She also is an all-time champion of the national all-around competitions at national championships (silver bronze, silver 2011, 2012 and 2015.). Inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame in 2013. Raisman was the daughter of Lynn Faber, the former gymnast from high school and Rick Raisman, on May 25, 1994, in Needham. She is the mother of three younger siblings: Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman who is Jewish and has stated that she is extremely proud in the fact that she is able to represent the American people, but as well as the Jewish community across the globe. Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months old. She credits her love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", an American women's team which won the gold medal at 1996 Summer Olympics. The athlete trained at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing up to Level 8 before she moved to Brestyan’s American Gymnastics Club, where she was instructed by Silvia Brestyan and Mihai Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012 after finishing her senior year with online classes , while preparing for the Olympics.
